MoTDStats 0.0.0a-0.0.0g Now Reside in SVN!

Pretty old and crummy code that I wrote a while ago, but I thought I'd put it into SVN in the hopes of renewing interest in it, and saving an insignificant amount of disk space on the House #404 server. ;)

Quoting the old post on House #404 (which was Drupal node 17 before I purged it and put a copy in WebCite):
"MoTDStats is a small script that displays the current kernel type, date and time, currently logged in user. and the amount of free disk space for either yourself when logging in, or for all of the users on your system."

Running PureDarwin nano on VMware Player - Take 1

Current software configuration:

  • VMware Player 2.5.0 build-118166 (installed from RPM)
  • Fedora 8 (Linux kernel version 2.6.25.4-10.fc8)
  • Most recent PureDarwin nano archive (puredarwinnano0df46.tbz2)

Note: I had no issues with booting a BeOS 5 VM or a QNX Neutrino 6.3.x VM.

We're Still Here... But There's Not Much Progress

It seems that there hasn't been much interest in the project as of late, and I haven't had much time to do anything with it recently. Another reshuffle happened last month, but there really needs to be a "real" source repository... :(

At the moment, I've been evaluating L4 as a potential microkernel (although we could still write our own, if needed), and it seems to build without issues (at least with GCC 3.4.6, from what I can tell). Mach was another option, but it isn't exactly "micro" by any means (although being compatible with Mach is still one of the aims).

ODS/Files-11, DSI Metadata on ISOs and FSServer

Currently, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Files-11, http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/731FINAL/4506/4506pro_001.html, http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/731FINAL/4506/4506pro_002.html provide a certain level of detail related to the ODS file system, and storage of DIGITAL System Identifiers on ISO 9660 file systems.

I was contemplating trying to map the DSI stuff onto the i9-native UDF file system, and probably into a file on FAT* volumes...

More on that later.
